I'll be honest. I'm aggressively average driving in the snow. It doesn't snow often where I live so I just don't have the practice.

That being said I really want to road trip through this area which obviously gets a lot of snow.

Will January be too bad to make it through the mountains with just a basic sedan or at best an average Subaru Outback?

If there is much concern about roads closing or my vehicle just not being capable of making it then I can just push the trip back to sometime between March and May. I am impatient though so I'm hopeful for January.
