Solo travel in South America - shall I do it?!
Hey solo travelers,
I'm a 30 year old guy trying to decide what to do with life. I haven't always been that interested in travel, I tend to go on a holiday or 2 every year but have never done any backpacking or any long trips and never traveled on my own.
I've been more focused on getting a good job and establishing a good career for myself (tick) and saving enough money for a deposit to buy a house (tick). So now I'm starting to view some flats and it just does not excite me like it should, despite the fact that this is what I have been working towards.
After a relationship didn't work out and just generally feeling kind of low about things in general, I recently put together a 4 month itinerary for South America, and the idea of doing that is suddenly much more exciting than going out and buying a house is. I almost certainly have the option of a 6 month sabbatical with work, but there are just a few things stopping me from going full steam ahead with this and was looking for some help and inspiration from the community!

As a 30 year old solo traveler, I am worried I will be a bit out of place. I feel like everyone will be on gap years and will be a lot younger than me

I am a very social person, but also a real introvert and do need my alone time to restore my energy levels. Looking at hostels, the idea of shared dorms kind of concerns me. I like the idea that I can get a private room but worried I'll miss out on meeting people if I do this.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom to put my concerns to rest?!
