Solo Mayan ruins tour from Cancun > Belize > Guatemala

Hello, I'm taking off for a a solo trip through Central America on Monday. I'll be flying into Cancun and visiting the ruins around there for 3 days. Then busing to Belize City and San Ignacio and visiting the ruins along the border of Guatemala. Then making it across the border to Flores, Guatemala to visit the Tikal ruins, and then heading down to Guatemala City.

I'm fairly experienced, speak a bit of Spanish, and I have everything mapped out pretty closely. However, I'm a bit unsure about what to expect at the border crossings and how to handle money... Belize uses U.S. $, so that makes it easier. Most people recommend using ATM machines in Mexico for taking out money, but I'm not sure about the Guatemalan money situation at the border crossing.

Any advice is appreciated!
