Should I sign up for workaway or helpx in New Zealand?

I just arrived in New Zealand, in the process of getting a bank account, tax number etc. I'm interested in finding a job that I can work for a few weeks before moving on to the next town. Many of the listings on trademe are longer-term positions or want you to stick around for the whole summer. I know fruit picking jobs are easy to find but it sounds like the season doesn't start for awhile.

Is it a good idea for me to sign up for workaway or helpx? Which one is better? And is this really necessary in New Zealand, or will I find short term jobs once I start asking around and travelling more? Keep in mind I am already in New Zealand and I will start looking for jobs in the next week.
