Going to Argentina and ending the year alone
I'm 19, will graduate high school this year and decided to go to Argentina. Sort of a celebratory ending to the last 13 years of my life, but its by doing something I love to do which is helping people. I'm going through a volunteer program, gonna be helping out at local schools.
I don't know if I want to be alone though. I definitely want to be away from my family and everyone/thing I've come to know here at home, but the thought of sitting outside on New Years Eve with just a few beers is both a satisfying/bittersweet ending in saying goodbye to school, but also sad because I don't have any friends, and I'd be forcing myself into even more loneliness.
I suppose I ask; how could/should I make friends while I'm there? I'm gonna be there for almost 2 months. I am sort of changing the way I'm going about this trip (i.e. not being a complete loner) and I want to make the most of socialising if I can. Again I don't have any friends here at home... But if I can make it work on the other side of the world, I'd like to try.
Any advice or experience is most welcome and would be appreciated.
