I love to travel, and most of the time I travel alone by choice. Unlike a lot of you here, I’m limited to short 1-3 day trips. I am incredibly lucky that I can fly standby for free, so the world (or at least the Western Hemisphere) is mine to explore.

I’ve yet to fly standby out of the US, but my favorite day trip spot is San Diego. The airport is practically downtown and there is so much to do. If I’m staying a little longer I love Portland, OR. PDX and a couple good hiking trails are accessible by rail, making it easy to get around.

So, non rev junkies, where should I check out? Where is you favorite place to fly to for the day? Or to grab dinner? Or spend the weekend? What are cities that don’t require an hour drive from the airport? Or hidden gems outside of mediocre cities?
