23-day Myanmar itinerary
As it stands, I plan on crossing the Thai/Burma border on November 6th. I have to be in Chiang Mai on November 28. This leaves me roughly 3 weeks in Myanmar and I'm really struggling to lay out an agenda. I typically like to just "go with the flow" but I've never really been tied to a hard schedule before. Yangon, Bagan, Inle Lake (possibly by way of a trek starting in Kalaw), and Mandalay are all on the list. Some of the other spots I'm trying to decide between are Pyin Oo Lwin, Hsipaw, Ngapali Beach, Mrauk-U, Pyay, and Naypyitaw. I'm course open to other suggestions as well. I don't anticipate being able to squeeze in all of those places, nor will I try. Anybody with experience in Burma care to share some thoughts or ideas?
Side note: I'm well aware of the current situation taking place in the country with the Rohingya population and have thought long and hard about going. I've made the decision to go through with it and will do what I can to make sure I'm spending my money ethically and responsibly. I'll also be donating to Doctors Without Borders or a similar relief group (again, open to suggestions here). It's a gruesome situation but I don't feel that boycotting the country will do anything positive.
