Where to go and things to do in China in January/February?
Context: I am studying Chinese in Shanghai between 15 Jan to Feb 8. I need to get back to Sydney by end of Feb and would like to travel during and after my studies there.
Who: 22/F, have solo travelled to 40+ countries so am pretty ok at surviving and navigating, can speak Cantonese but only extremely limited Mandarin - I am ethnically Chinese
When: Mid January to mid February
Interests: hiking (is this feasible in winter??), nature, food, history, cities with a really lively social atmosphere or backpacker scene, urbex
Past experience in China: I have been all around but as a kid so I don't remember places well and do not mind revisiting except for Xi'an, Fuzhou, Wuyishan, Guang Zhou, as I've been to those recently
Budget: budget - still a student so I don't have a ton of cash to burn through and would like to keep it very budget friendly
