We want to go to Greece at the end of October. What should we be aware of?

A friend and I are looking to go to Greece for about 10 days at the end of October (and by that I mean the last 10 days of the month). I'm getting slightly conflicting information according to the research I've done. Some sites recommend October as a good month to go because of the cooler temperatures (Between 15 and 20 Degrees Celsius), thinner crowds, and cheaper prices which makes it a better time for sightseeing. Other sites say not to bother visiting the islands during that time.
That being said, although it's supposed to be cooler, we'd like to do maybe 4 days in Santorini, 3 days in Mykonos and 2 in Athens, but some dated forums mentioned ferries may not be available due to the late season.
So, please help me! Although we aren't looking to nap on the beach all day, we'd still like to see them (and the sights, I'm a photographer). Will it be beautiful or is it not worth it? Will the lower season make it too much of a hassle to travel around?
