Visiting Rome + Florence Italy next week - worth paying for professional tours or better to use self-guided audio tours for certain museums/sights?
My wife and I are heading to Italy next week (3 nights Rome, 4 nights Florence, 1 night Cinque Terre). On our first full day in Rome we want to see the Vatican (museum + Sistine Chapel + Basilica) and the second day we want to do the Colosseum + Forum. In Florence, we are still figuring out what to do (any suggestions for either self-guided or professional tours?).
My question is: is it worth it to book tours for the Vatican Museums/Chapel/Basilica? Or the Colosseum + Forum? We don't know a whole lot about the history of anything in particular. I see an almost equal amount of posts recommending getting tours vs. paying for the provided audio tour or downloading apps.
Specifically to the Vatican: I saw some posts about tours rushing you through the museums to get to the Sistine Chapel - is this usually the case?
