Vienna, Rome or St Petersburg?
My wife and I are trying to plan a relaxing week long holiday in one of these cities. We have a love for history, which makes all of these former Imperial capitals so interesting. We're planning on taking this trip at the end of November or the beginning of December, at which time we'll be around 22-25 weeks pregnant with our first child, and because of that we'll be taking it easier than we normally do, staying in a nice hotel, hiring cars and taking cabs instead of using public transit etc. but we'd still like to keep it on a budget of less than 2500€ or just around 360€ per day, not including flying there and back.
We're both 25 years old, I'm a British-American dual citizen, my wife is Polish and we've lived in Istanbul for the last two years, after living for three years in Cambridge. We've never been to Austria, in Italy we've been to Milan and Venice, and we haven't been anywhere in Russia aside from Moscow. Aside from Istanbul, the European cities that we loved the most were Munich, Moscow and Budapest and the European cities that we enjoyed the least were Amsterdam and Stockholm, and come to think if it the only cities in Northern Europe (outside of England) that we did like were Edinburgh, Antwerp and Copenhagen — and I suppose that's because we don't drink and have never had any sort of interest in partying or nightlife, and get much more excited about architecture, art and traditional culture.
Of these three cities, which do you recommend for us and why?
