US road trip, car rental question
Hi Reddit,
I'm a Brit meeting my Canadian friend in New Orleans in December. We want to rent a car and take a road trip North for 10-12 days, ending up in Montreal. We are researching google and car rental companies, but wanted to ask questions to see if anyone had any specific experiences of this kind of trip and had any tips/hacks about how to do this
We want to take a roadtrip from New Orleans, and get to Montreal in about 10-12 days.
Our initial idea is to rent a car in New Orleans for 10-12 days and driving it to Montreal, dropping it there? (but there's mad charges for dropping across the border I think right?)
So the other idea is renting the car in New Orleans for 10-12 days, then dropping at any airport in the US and flying to Montreal?
The point is, do ALL car rental companies charge;
-
A crazy charge for dropping off in Canada from the US (guessing there is)
-
For dropping off in another State, and is this distance sensitive; i.e. is it cheaper to pick up in Louisiana and drop off back there or in Alabama than dropping off in, say Vermont)?
tldr; -Do we rent a car in Louisiana and drive it to Montreal - drive it as far North as possible and drop it at an airport near the border before flying there - Drive it around before dropping back in Louisiana and then fly to Montreal.
Apologies if this Q doesn't belong here, but if anyone has experience of similar trips or advice, it'd be great.
We've no real itinerary but want to be driving North East the whole time.
