Unguided or Guided for Milford Track? And what are the best tour operators for this?

Planning a trip to do the full 4 day Milford Track (edit: in New Zealand, sorry forgot to add in title). Two of us are in our 20s-30s, the other two of us are in their 50s. We can all hike, but are not experts.

From what I've read you can do a guided, or unguided trek. The main difference from what I can see, is the price; the guided seems to be double the price. Also the unguided requires you to carry everything (e.g. food and whatever else).

So my main question is how hard is it carry everything with you to do the 4 day unguided hike on this trail? Secondly what are the best tour operators for both the unguided and guided? I was leaning more towards to the guided one and could only seem to find Ultimate Hikes that does it.
