Should we still travel to the Caribbean?
At risk of sounding like an absolute jerk, let me just state upfront that I know people in the region are suffering and at risk and in a generally terrible circumstance at the moment with Hurricane Irma. I fully acknowledge that my little holiday is the least of anyone's concerns.
However, as stated, we have a trip planned for late October (Cuba, Bahamas, Caribbean cruise). It's only partially booked so far. I'm in two minds about going now. Part of this is because I will feel like the worst person enjoying a holiday while people are rebuilding their lives, and despite the above statement, the likelihood is that much of the region will be ruined.
On the flip side, I understand that the tourist dollar is a large part of their income and they will need that sort of thing to rebuild.
Ethically, I want to do the right thing, but I'm not sure whether that entails going on the trip or not going on the trip? And as selfish as it is, I do kinda wanna enjoy the holiday. We aren't precious people, we understand things will be limited if we go, but I just don't know what the right decision is.
