Route help please! We are travelling across Europe and want to visit as many beautiful lakes and mountains as possible
My boyfriend and I are planning a road trip around Europe at some point in the next year. We are hiring a camper van, so will not necessarily need to stay in cities or towns each night. A very rough idea of our route is: Home (England) to Calais. Next we want to get to Poland, but we have no specific route in mind for this, we will probably end up going through Belgium and Germany, but is there a better route? Then we want to go down through Slovakia, Hungary (again, not on our list of hesitations to stop off in at the moment but should we?!) to Romania. Then back up to Austria, through Switzerland and back to Calais. We're very flexible in regards to budget and time of year to go, although we would prefer cooler weather.
We have done some vague research on mountains and lakes we want to see, but I'm so keen to hear peoples ideas of must-sees. I'm leaning more towards searching out some fantastic lakes, as most of the time they come with fantastic mountains too, and we're taking a very mountainous route anyway. Lake Lucerne and Lake Bled are definites. Maybe down to Lake Como if we have enough time and energy.
Has anyone else done a trip like this, so we can piggyback off your ideas?
