Recommendations for a short winter trip from New England?
Hello! I have read the sidebar and searched pretty thoroughly for suggestions, and while I found some helpful suggestions I couldn't really find specific recommendations for our particular needs. Husband and I have some travel points to redeem and are planning a shortish getaway this winter and we are looking for some destination ideas. The sidebar says to be specific so here is an absurd about of information:
Traveling from: Boston
Dates: Flexible, thinking the first week or two in December or January.
Length of trip: thinking 4-5 days and 3-4 nights.
Budget: Hoping to spend no more than $2k total including airfare, hotel, food, etc.
Interests: Looking for someplace warmer than Boston but doesn't necessarily need to be a beach vacation. Just looking for temps in the 60s and higher. We would like to do some relaxation/day drinking but also want to see cool architecture, historical landmarks, eat delicious food, maybe some light hiking. We would consider either stateside or international travel. Given it's a shorter trip, we don't want any super long plane rides (direct flights are ideal though not 100% necessary). Leaning more towards a hotel for this trip but would consider an airbnb to save costs as well.
Dislikes: Children, peoples knees, long lines, Florida (kidding, Florida is ok but we've been there 100 times). Not really looking for an all-inclusive, we've done that before and it's okay but we want to get out more and explore a new place.
Where we've been: The entire east coast of the US from Maine to Florida, Seattle/Oregon, Vegas, New Orleans, and a good sprinkle of states in between. Portugal, Spain (southern coast), Morocco, Germany, Britain, Scotland, France (Paris area only), Switzerland, Prague, Poland, Rome, Punta Cana, east coast of Canada, Chile.
Basically, we're looking for a relatively inexpensive place where we can do a lot in a short period of time and have some good food and drinks to escape our frigid winters. We've looked into Puerto Rico (super cheap short flights from Boston but not sure if given Maria we should hold off on booking anything), Belize, & Costa Rica (flights are a bit more expensive here, not sure if lodging is cheaper than PR?). Any input people have about destinations would be much appreciated!
