Question on security screenings in the US following a trip to Turkey.

I'm planning a trip and considering Turkey as a destination. A friend told me they recently traveled there and their boyfriend was put on a high security list or some such (US citizen) and has to undergo a higher level of screening at the airport for the next 6 months or so. It would seem that being a younger male is a requirement. I travel quite a bit domestically and this would end up being a pretty large inconvenience for me (as it would be for anyone I suppose). I can't find any info on it from government websites or google. Does anyone here have any experience with this or is it just hearsay?
