Traveling on a plane for the first time, overseas for the fist time, and will be alone. I'm so confused between adapters, converters, voltage, frequency, amps, etc etc.

I'll be bringing my MacBook, iPod Touch, iPad, Kindle, and Nintendo DS.

A family member told me I'd only need an adapter but a website I found states I'll also need a voltage converter.

Does anyone with knowledge in this area know more? I did try to research this but I'm extremely confused.
