Natural beauty in Miami and surroundings?
Hello r/travel!
Here's the deal: it's my first year of full time employment in the UK and as a mediterranean I NEED a break from all these clouds and constant rainfall at some point through the 12 months of my contract. Due to mine and my girlfriend's schedules however, the only time I have to travel freely is during the month of January. Having made a few calculations I have come to the realisation that the only location reachable from the UK with less than £300 in airfare that would have weather suitable for swimming is Miami. Now I have been in Miami before, but only briefly and with my parents on a trip organised by a travel agency and therefore very much aligned with touristy trends. While I definitely want to spend some days in the city, I'd like to spend a sizeable portion of the 10-11 days I want to spend on holiday either lounging on a beautiful beach or exploring an area of outstanding natural beauty. I am aware things might chance after Irma sweeps Florida, but let's pretend nothing changes: what would be the best places to present the characteristics I listed (beautiful beaches, relaxing, wild-ish?) to visit for a few nights, considering we're operating on a budget and we do not have a driving license or intend to rent a car? I know the Caribbean is close by and I've even looked into the Bahamas already, but I am happy to stay on the mainland as well!
