Europe trip for a little over two weeks, leaving at end of month!
Hi Reddit!
My father is super pumped that he beat cancer and decided to celebrate by visiting Europe for a little over two weeks. We will be flying out of LAX to Germany at the end of the month, and will be in Munich for Oktoberfest for three days, and then renting a car to leave Germany (he's pretty set on driving all over, and no flying or trains.)
I haven't been to Europe before myself, and he hasn't been in over twenty years. We don't have too much of an itinerary set besides Germany and a rental car. He keeps talking about visiting Innsbruck, the Alps, and making the trek down to Italy to see Florence, Rome, Venice, etc. We would essentially be on the road starting October 3rd.
After that he would like to go west to head to Monaco and Nice, if that would work in the interest of time. I don't know much about timeframes here, but it seems like a 7 hour drive or so to leave Italy and head that way.
I'm looking for input on how to make this trip work, or if there's other options I should keep open to make this successful as possible. I would really LOVE to go to Paris, but don't know how feasible it will all be. We would need to return the rental car back to Munich on October 14th if that helps with any input.
Tldr: Going to Munich on Sep 29th, have a rental car starting October 3rd, want to hit the best spots that make sense while driving and need to end up back in Munich on the 14th. Any input on how to put this together would be greatly appreciated - he really wants my input and I don't really know the first thing about Europe and it's coming up in less than 4 weeks. Thank you!
Edit: Also looking at using Sixt for the rental car, as they have really good rates and seem trustworthy. Any feedback or suggestions for the car company / rental process? Thanks!!
