Audibleing on December/NYE Europe Destination - Need Suggestions
Hi all,
I'm a fairly experienced solo traveler, and generally do 3-4 solo trips per year, including over NYE. This year, I planned a trip to Europe over NYE, from dec 26 returning jan 3.
For some reason, I decided to pick Cluj-Napoca and Kotor as my two destinations. Looking back as to when I booked it, I don't feel the same about those places anymore. Additionally, I started to realize the intra-travel I booked is pretty messy and time intensive (cluj to kotor takes a whole day of travel routing through Istanbul, and getting back to flyout is a day long pain).
Right now, I'm flying into Paris, to Bucharest, to Cluj. It's a one-way ticket and I won't be checking a bag, so I can hop off in Paris or Bucharest easily enough... which basically gives me all of Europe as possible destinations. I'm OK sacrificing the intra-europe plane costs (only like $250 in total). My only requirement is that I am flying out of Dubai on Jan 3, so I need to get back there in time.
I enjoy more off-the-beaten-path places (partially why I picked Cluj and Kotor..), and am open to suggestions. I actually like cities that aren't as massive as it usually makes it easier to meet people I find.
Do you all have any suggestions as to a great city for the winter/NYE? The only places really "off" my list would be Madeira, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Rome, and Budapest. Nothing against those... I've just been there over NYE before! Ideally, it is a good solo city with some a decent hostel scene -- often, the hostel can make or break the experience (as I'm sure many of you know!).
Figured I would ask around here for any advice before poking around Wikitravel. Any insight is appreciated!
Happy to answer any questions on preferences too. Thanks!
