Asian language barrier
I would like to travel to countries like Japan or South Korea some day but I am worried about the English to local language barrier. I don't know why but I picture an environment less welcoming to English than the places I've been to in Europe. Would an English only speaker be able to effectively experience a lot of culture without knowing local languages in the capitals and/or smaller cities of the countries I mentioned? Like how hard is it to order from food vendors/shops, navigate streets, or talk to locals? Anyone with advice about how to prepare for a trip like this?
