Anyone who was displaced by the Jamaican Airspace 9/8/2017-9/9/2017 closure get a full refund from their Resort?
So me and the new wife come to find out this morning that Jamaican airspace was closed due to a lightning strike on the tower in Kingston. As a result, it became basically impossible for us, or anyone for that matter, to get into Jamaica. No flight could be rescheduled for us till mid week which effectively meant our vacation was not happening (we would only get 2-3 days in Jamaica).
Our resort informed us that they would not offer us a refund, but would offer us 7 days to reschedule our trip at no fee, as long as the new dates fell before December 20, 2017. Anything after that would be subject to a hefty fee and would not be made at the value we booked. (Add $1,500) As can be imagined, this sort of thing just doesn't fly in certain workplaces where vacation time is booked well in advance, and multiple vacations in the span of 3 months in generally discouraged, and the paid time for such a thing is not often available.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or if perhaps they had a different experience with their hotels. Like say a full reimbursement? It would mostly be helpful so I could let my resort know how their competitors are handling the situation.
