3-Week Japan Trip: Suggestions/Meet Up?
I'm at O'Hare Int'l Airport in Chicago and about to board a flight to Tokyo, Japan. I've already conducted a ton of research regarding food, sites, lodging and shopping, but I'm hoping to (1) get anecdotal suggestions from people who have visited or live in Japan as to unique experiences or bars or restaurants that are noteworthy but off the beaten path and (2) meet up with anyone who is interested in hanging out while I'm in Japan.
A couple of things about myself: I love music of all genres but am particularly interested in going to a club/bar where deep house music is spun; I enjoy a quality old fashioned or perfect manhattan; my favorite video games are Tekken (the entire series), Rocket League and The Legend of Zelda (the entire series), so I guess I would be interested in checking out a unique arcade with varied games that do not exist in the States (what was that one game from Rick & Morty?); interested in picking up unique wares, including any of these intricate boxes sold at Aoyama Square in Tokyo; I'm traveling solo.
My somewhat structured itinerary is as follows:
September 10-14: Staying at an Airbnb in Shibuya (Tokyo); I have some things planned but my time in Tokyo is largely unaccounted for. Anyone interested in visiting a shrine/temple or grabbing a Sapporo in Golden Gai (or playing Tekken 7 in Akihabara)?
September 15-16: Taking the Shinkansen to Hiroshima; staying at the Cube, a capsule hotel. Plan is to visit Miyajima as well as Hiroshima.
September 17-18: Planning to see family at Lake Biwa or in Kobe/open.
September 19-21: Traveling to and staying in Osaka (Brighton Hotel). No real plans other than to eat, eat, EAT! Shabu-shabu, Kobe beef, etc., Beuller?
September 22-25/26: Traveling to and staying in Kyoto; planning to get my cultural fill here, walking around, visiting various historical sites (incl. temples, palaces, museums, etc.), lodging in a ryokan (Izyasu) for a couple nights... anyone have any experience there? Seems like they want to charge me the couples price for dinner rather than the price for just an individual, which I understand is common practice for ryokans that serve private dinners?
September 26/27-28: Returning to Tokyo for a bit of shopping and departure back to Chicago on the 28th.
Thank you in advance for any advice interest in meeting up!
