SOLO DRIVE LA(ish) TO IDAHO for the eclipse.
Hello everyone! I'd like to start off by saying I am new Reddit. Solotravel is my first sub, and this is my first post.
A friend and I had decided to drive up to Oregon to watch the eclipse. I'm from Ventura, Ca which is about an hour north of Los Angeles. After I heard how packed the interstate was suppose to be, we changed our minds and settled with Idaho; consequently, Idaho was random enough that only about 500,000 were expected to travel to the state. The number is relatively small compared to the 3 million who were expected to flood into Oregon.
Come Saturday my friend cancels on me (we were leaving when I got home from work that night around 1am) I decided I would still do the trip. I left at about 3am. I made to Vegas around 8am, taking the 15.
I drove through California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and finally Idaho. Driving it was about 13 hours but, with all the stops it totaled 16 hours.
I stayed at a campground by myself but made friends with the neighbor. To watch the eclipse, I used a cereal box and hot dog wrappers. It was a great experience. I never hit traffic, overall it was beautiful. I'm glad I did it.
If anyone here is considering doing a solo trip, stop thinking. DO IT! :)
