Money and etiquette while vacationing in Germany.
I'm leaving for Germany tomorrow, and I realized I haven't done much research on money or etiquette. I live in the United States, I'll be staying outside of Frankfurt with family, will be there for approximately 6 days. We will be getting chauffeured around, and will be staying within a 3ish hour circle of frankfurt. My girlfriend and I love beer, and plan on stopping by several biergartens while we are there. I have a few questions, as I have never really travelled in Europe before.
Random question:
crime and the like, is there much I have to worry about? Especially pickpockets and other tourist type crime. Is Germany as safe and calm as it appears to be? Any special considerations while there?
Money:
How important is it to bring cash? I imagine I will be exchanging for local currency, but I have several debit and credit cards.
When dining or other normal events, is cash the norm or highly preferred over credit or debit transactions?
Etiquette:
What are some important etiquette considerations while traveling in Germany? Things to avoid saying or doing? Actions that are highly suggested? For example, when I was in the Middle East, looking at women or showing the bottom of your feet were very serious offenses. In the other hand, firm handshakes and even hugs are always highly recommended. What are some possible faux pas I should be mindful of while in Germany?
