La Serena, Chile to view eclipse in 2019 - with small kids.
After viewing last week's eclipse here in North America, we're setting our sights on South America, for the eclipse of July 2, 2019. We've sort of narrowed our destination down to the Chilean coast, and are looking at the La Serena area. We'd be coming from Seattle, and there'd be my wife and I, and our two small children (ages 2 and 5 at the time of travel). I'm trying to put together an itinerary, with the eclipse being the focus, but trying to take advantage of our time in-country as well. Some questions:
-
I presume we'd be flying into Santiago. Is it a good place for families to visit for a day or two?
-
From there, would it be best to take a day or two and drive up the coast to La Serena? Or to fly?
-
Lodging in this part of the country will be in high demand. I've looked at various booking sites, and those that let me book that far out are low on supply. However, there is still a ton of AirBNB availability. I'm not opposed to that, especially if it's easy to get groceries and do some of our own cooking. Regarding lodging, I want close to the beach. Open to ideas.
TIA.
