I'm from NY and I got a 10-month volunteer program in Sacramento, California that ends in November. I'm allowed to postpone my (paid for) flight back up to 30 days, and I want to do a solo-trip down the coast of California.
I don't have a lot of money so I'll just want to be present where I'm staying, buy simple and cheap groceries like fruits and vegetables to carry around and eat on-the-go, and go to local Planet Fitness places to stay in shape and do some body weight fitness to keep up my programs.
Other than that, I want to be as lightweight and free/whimsical as possible.
I have a few questions:
I can postpone my flight home to NY for up to 30 days. How long should I stay out here for with my budget restrictions? I want to travel light. What are some necessities that I should bring with me? What kind of bag should I carry around? How do I keep my belongings safe when I go to the beach? I'm 24 years old. Should I rent a car, or take a bus and walk places? I don't have a LOT of money for Uber or taxis but I can manage.
What are some good places to be? Some big places I want to visit are Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and finally San Diego for its beaches.
Thank you for any help you could offer! This is my first time doing something like this and I want to seriously challenge myself. I'm super excited to go explore on my own!
