American West Coast + Pacific Northwest itinerary
Hey guys,
My girlfriend and I are planning for a 3 week trip along the western coast of the United States. I'd love any and all tips for this trip and most especially your opinions on hiring a camper vs hiring a car +hotels
We're from the Netherlands. I've been to the US before when I was 15, but I was more focused on playing my DS than looking out the car window. We went to South Africa last year and Scotland this year, which we both absolutely loved. We're big fans of vast nature expanses such as the Scottish Highlands or the South African Drakensbergen. We also love driving around looking for wildlife. I'm an amateur photographer and focus mostly on landscapes and animals. I'm also a history teacher and I love exploring local history and culture. We're not a big fan of hiking long distances. We're okay with walking for a bit but it's not necessarily our idea of fun.
Day 1
Fly over to Las Vegas, arrive in the evening and sleep.
Day 2
Explore Las Vegas, the hotels and probably lose some money in the casinos.
Day 3
Drive over to the Grand Canyon and just absorb everything. Including sunset stargazing.
Day 4
Drive to Bryce Canyon and once again take it all in!
Day 5
Resting day, find a hotel with a pool and just hang out for a bit. Maybe do something with low-intensity. We found in our former trips that these kind of days inbetween are necessary sometimes.
Day 6
Drive over to Zion National Park and hike around to enjoy the scenery.
Day 8
Drive to Las Vegas again, see some different hotels and lose some more money (we needed another stop between Zion and L.A.)
Day 9
Drive to Santa Monica Beach and enjoy some time there
Day 10
Visit Universal Studios
Day 11
Drive along the coast to San Francisco
Day 12
Explore San Francisco
Day 13
Not sure on this one. We need a stop before Portland. Decided currently on Crater Lake National Park.
Day 14
Visit Salem, Oregon
Day 15
Explore Portland
Day 16
Drive up to either Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helens. Which one is best?
Day 17
Visit Seattle
Day 18
Visit Seattle - maybe Olympia national park
Day 19
Visit Vancouver Island and go on a Bear Salmon Hunt Excursion
Day 20
Orca/Whale excursion on Vancouver Island
Day 21
Explore Vancouver
Day 22
Fly back
