Advice, tips, and expectations for 3/4 months in South America
Hey wonderful people! I'm searching for some advice and suggestions on a possible trip I'll be going on to South America this October.
About me I'm a 21 f from USA, I've already backpacked every South east Asia country solo excluding Brunei in one trip, and then I just did another trip to Australia and New Zealand solo. I'm going to Belgium and Germany in September for 14 days flying solo but meeting up with two of my friends. I'm super comfortable by myself and love traveling, but for some reason I'm nervous to go to South America.
I would be flying into Bogota early October. The flights are only like 200$. My plan would be: Columbia - 1 month Ecuador- 2-3 weeks? (how much time is needed?) Peru- 1 month Bolivia- 2-3 weeks? Again not sure how much time I'll need.
With Asia it was soooo easy getting around and everywhere is so close I found it was super easy to wing it and change plans, but I'm not sure if that's the same case with South America.
Is the language barrier a bigger deal?
I have about 9k in savings right now so I'm ok for money, but should I include other countries or do you think 3-4 months with those four countries would be good. I think 3/4 months is kinda my max on traveling solo- both trips I get burnt out around that mark and sick of the partying and always moving and same conversations.
Is South America a similar party scene? I'm honestly grossed out by how much drinking was involved in hostels in Australia and New Zealand.
Is solo easy in South America? I make friends really easily and I'm really extroverted, but I'm nervous for some reason. I have this idea I'm going to fly into Columbia and just be by myself for 4 months. When in Peru is it easy to find a crew to do the Machu Piccu hike with? And same with Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. I'm perfectly ok spending nights alone, taking a bus alone, eating alone- but I love making friends to do day activities and hikes with. I don't really do activities alone while traveling- I've always found people in my hostels to link up with and I'm hoping it's the same in these countries.
If anyone has done a similar route or any of these countries can you just tell me what your experience was like? What I should expect or any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I've been dying to go to South America and feel ready for it, but I'm nervous it's out of my league for a solo female because people I talk to in my everyday life are like "you can't go to South America alone" even though friends I made while traveling have gone and loved it but I'm being nervous. I guess I'm always nervous before a big trip :)
