Bangladesh is known for
being off the beaten track, unspoiled, friendly, and incredibly
beautiful. However, it is not known for being one of the world’s premier
biking destinations. It really should be. Bangladesh, while not
currently a major destination for the world’s bikers, deserves to become
so. Here are just a few reasons why.
Bangladesh Is An Adventure
Bangladesh
is wonderfully itself. By this, I mean that it’s unsullied by the
tourist influence, and cares little what the rest of the world thinks of
it. This has the effect of making Bangladesh feel very far from the
globalized neon West, which ultimately renders it an exciting
destination for anyone with a sense of adventure and a love of the
unpredictable. Bangladesh’s major roads, furthermore, are a quest in and
of themselves – you’re advised to be well covered and
have your wits about you if navigating the cities! In the more rural
areas, however, you can ride for miles without ever seeing anything to
pop you back into the Westernized bubble. Bikers have always been
notorious for their adventure-seeking and their counter-cultural outlook on life.
Bangladesh, with its genuine-ness, its authenticity, and its roads
un-travelled by tourists, is the ideal place in which to let your sense
of adventure run to its limits!
The Roads Are Better Than You Think
When
people think of Bangladesh, a lot of them think of narrow dirt-tracks,
semi-submerged beneath floods. In fact, the majority of Bangladesh’s
roads are paved, and those which aren’t are made of tightly-packed earth
along which people cycle and walk regularly. This is not to say that
there aren’t stones and potholes – there are – but, as mentioned above,
this merely adds to the sense of adventure without actively endangering
your bike. Most bikes are more than capable of driving Bangladesh’s
roads right out into the heart of rural Bangladesh, wherein waits some
of the most superb vistas and experiences to be had in the entire
subcontinent. Of course, if you’re proud of your vehicle, and don’t want
it to get dirty, then Bangladesh is definitely not for you. But if
you’re looking for the best Bangladesh has to offer, then a motorbike is
undoubtedly the best vehicle you could utilize. It’ll take you anywhere
you want to go, and give you a great riding experience as you do so!

You’ll Be Treated Wonderfully
One
of Bangladesh’s greatest assets is the incredible friendliness and
hospitality of its people. Being un-used to tourists, Bangladeshi people
are naturally curious and intrigued when a stranger from another land
hoves into view. Although there are plenty of restaurants and cafes in
Bangladesh, the likelihood is that you won’t ever need to use them.
Instead, people will invite you back to their houses, ply you with tea
and incredible home-cooked food, and swap tales of their lives for tales
of yours. It’s an incredible experience, and no visitor leaves with
their heart un-touched by the friendly generosity of the people of Bangladesh.
Bike Knowledge Abounds
The
motorbike is a popular mode of transport in Bangladesh and, as such,
every biker in Bangladesh fancies themselves as something of a bike
mechanic. Often, their conceit is perfectly justified. Bike repair
prices being what they are compared to wages in the country, necessity
forces many to develop an in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of
their bikes, and to improvise some ingenious fixes for problems which
may develop. It’s guaranteed that, should you find yourself in a sticky
situation, eight out of ten people on the street will be able (and very
happy) to offer you a workable solution!

Bangladesh
is an utterly beautiful place. The great vistas of the deltas, the sun
rising and setting over the rivers, the tea gardens, the bright greens
and golds of the fields, the mists rising in the forests…there’s nowhere
quite like it in the world, and there’s no way to experience it quite
like from the back of a bike. Travelling through this incredible
landscape on a bike, surrounded by all this beauty, breathing in the
scents while simultaneously enjoying the experience of riding your
motorbike – well, it’s breathtaking, and you won’t forget it in a hurry!
