Everything Our Family Owns Fits in a Few Bags

Everything our family owns fits in these bags. 3 months ago we stepped out of our comfort zone, and left behind everything we've known to pursue a life of travel and adventure as a family

Visiting/living in Hawaii for 3 months has been a dream come true for our family. This is our first really BIG trip out of our home state of AZ. Not knowing what to expect, we just dove in, head first. And wow.......

Since we've been here we have seen, learned, and experienced so much!

From riding bikes through a lava field and seeing flowing lava up close, to seeing the Milky Way and Saturn's rings

We swam with the honu (sea turtles), boogie boarded our hearts out, and visited green, black, and white sand beaches.

We got to know and even lived with the locals and made life long friends Swam in a pool connected to the ocean, heated by a volcano Learned to photograph the night sky

Hiked waterfalls and swam at the top of them

Stayed in a solar-powered off-grid surf shack in a hidden gem town called Milolii.

Visited a "hippie" night market called Uncle Robs, complete with local food vendors, street performers, artists, live music, and more. People from all over this side of the island gather each Wednesday night to socialize, eat, drink, smoke and dance. It's a big party on the side of a volcano under the star-filled sky by the ocean.

Harvested 3 banana trees and ate ALL the bananas

Learned so much about the history and culture of Hawaii

Discovered foods we'd never heard of but became new favorites (lychees, ranbutan anyone!?)

Hiked down to incredible Waipio Valley, crossed the mouth of the river connected to the ocean and touched the side of the cliff.

We've been given rides from locals in the back of their trucks more than once and they would not accept a tip.

Saw so many amazing sunsets, I lost count.

And last but not least, my husband got punched in the face by a homeless guy in Kona (That's a different story tho)

This trip has made us a closer family, it's made me more brave, our kids are happier....we all are. But mostly, it's given us a taste of real travel and I know this is just the first of many adventures we will take.

I've said it before...and I will always say, WE WOULD NOT BE HERE HAD WE NOT DISCOVERED/EMBRACED MINIMALISM.

And I am just SO grateful it found us.

Here in Kona for 2 more weeks before heading back to AZ to visit family, work, save, and plan our next big trip. We are in search of our next great destination. Mexico is on the list!
