2 Weeks in August - Montana, Wyoming, more?

I have ~2 weeks in early August to road trip somewhere, and I am having trouble deciding on a route! I definitely want to go to Montana, and then am thinking Wyoming, The Dakotas - but I don't know how much is feasible in 14-16ish days. I'll be traveling with my boyfriend and want a mixture of stops that are cool/quirky towns and scenic landscapes. We love architecture and design. We won't be camping but would be interested in some easy/short hikes. We want to avoid the crowds/tourists as much as possible- so I'm thinking we don't do Yellowstone. Maybe Glacier National Park?

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on routes/towns/attractions? I've been doing a lot of research but there's so much I want to see/do, I'm having trouble narrowing it down...
