California to Wisconsin 2 days/2,200 miles - Tips and Observations
Things I notice and recommend for anyone looking to drive cross country, quickly. From personal experience.
Tip #1: Don’t do it in two days. Driving 17 hours a day is miserable. No time to stop at awesome national parks or views. No time to do anything but drive and fill up. It will feel like the longest hours of your life. And your AC will likely be fried by the end, which happened to me and we were drowning in our own sweat.
Tip #2: Pack food so you don’t waste precious hours eating. It will also reduce your risk of exposure to COVID, if that’s your primary reason for driving instead of flying.
Tip #3: Enjoy Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado (any west coast or mountain state) because once you hit Nebraska, it’s non stop rolling hills and flat plains. Nothing exciting besides giant windmills and cornfields.
Obs/Tip #4: Weekend traffic was pretty light from Nevada to Wyoming, besides the big rigs. But once you go into Nebraska and Iowa, where population density increases, there will be many more cars on the road.
Still can’t believe we did this drive, but let me tell you, it’s never happening again. At least not for me!
