7 day Northern Vietnam Itinerary Advice
I'm going to take a quick vacation to Vietnam from May 26-June 2nd flying in to Hanoi. I'm having a hard time narrowing down my itinerary, so here's what I'm thinking:
May 26 Fly into Hanoi. Stay the night in the city.
May 27, 28 Halong Bay 2 night cruise
May 29, 30, 31 Deciding between Sapa, Ninh Binh, or maybe even Phong Nha
June 1 Return to Hanoi, stay the night before a flight the morning of June 2
Basically, I'm going to stay in Hanoi the day I arrive and the day I leave. I'm someone that prefers nature to cities, so I think that's plenty of time for me there. I've confirmed I want to go to Halong Bay, but I really can't decide on the second destination I want to see. Sapa and Phong Nha are both much farther away from this area than Ninh Binh (Sapa is a 9hr train/6hr bus, Phong Nha is a 10 hr bus, Ninh Binh is a 2 hr bus). Another alternative is to do a 1 night Halong Bay cruise, giving me 2 nights each for Sapa and Ninh Binh, but I worry about spending too much time in transit for such a short trip.
I'd love to hear any advice on the itinerary or any other suggestions about hostels/restaurants/treks you enjoyed. Thank you!
