Tuscan island of Elba for 5 days- wondering how to set up accommodations
Hi there, so for my birthday, I booked plane tickets to Venice, and back home from Pisa about 8 days later at the end of this month (May). I'm planning on taking the train over to Piombino and spending 5 days on the island just relaxing and taking in the island, as well as doing a trip to Pianosa since it seems so remote.
My question is this: Since I wasn't intending to get a car, how do people get about, especially between towns in places like these? The busses don't seem to run so often as the would in a city, so would I just have to be careful of not missing bad ones?
Would it be more clever and spontaneous to just look for hotels or something wherever I end up for the day, or would that be too risky and I might not have a place to stay a few nights?
I just don't want to be stuck in one place, too worried to go out in case I can't get back. Also, if anyone has been to the island before, is there a city you'd recommend staying? Porto Ferraio seems ideal but might be too busy and touristy for someone looking to get away from everything.
