One-way rental costs as a tourist renting in the USA
Hi all, I had some super useful replies on here before about our planned road trip in the midwest. But on looking to book a car I've realised that the US has some really high one-way rental fees! I found some useful posts about this on here, but I wondered if anyone had any recent advice. It is going to cost us a couple hundred dollars for the car, I don't really want to double this with a one-way fee. So, questions:
- are one-way rental fees ubiquitous? I feel like this rules out most road trips for tourists!
- are there exceptions for tourists/non-US citizens?
- does it matter how far you drive? Is it just a between-state thing?
- I've seen various references to international brokers/agencies which will book cars for you. Anyone had any experience with that? I know from hiring in the US before that whatever you book it normally goes out the window when you actually show up to collect the car.
Thanks!
