I've been looking at Puerto Vallarta as my next destination, but are there similar destinations that might work better for me?
So I have a bit of time off of work coming up, from February 17th to 25th, and am wanting badly to travel during that time. I'm looking for a place that allows for ample opportunities to relax in a nice climate, but also gives some opportunity for day trips, mini-adventures, etc. In doing a little bit of research, Puerto Vallarta seemed like it might be the best fit.
The problem is that I'm having a little bit of an issue finding flights that are as good as I was hoping. I can get some cheaper flights, but they have pretty awful layovers and bad times. I can get nonstop flights from the Bay Area airports, but they're a bit more costly than I was hoping. I can find cheap and quick flights, but only on the weekdays, which would make the trip a bit shorter than I'd like.
So I'm just curious if there might be another Central American location that satisfies the kind of specific criteria I'm thinking of here (nice climate, a fairly easy trip, cheapish and reasonably fast flights from California). My Spanish skills are good enough for doing the basics, but I don't have a ton of experience with solo travel (I spent a few weeks in Australia during the summer and had an incredible time). I recognize I'm being extremely picky here, but I just want to make sure that I'm keeping my mind open!
