We're a family with two boys 10 and 12, doing 6 weeks in Playa Del Carmen Jan 1-mid Feb, and then trying to decide if we should road trip from home (Toronto area) to Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, etc for next 2 months, or go to southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Italy) first. We're doing both trips, just trying to work out best order, and also looking for any suggestions.

Main concerns are weather and keeping two high energy boys busy. We mainly avoid cities, and like to hike, bike, beach, paddle, etc. Seems easy to find fun outdoor places in U.S. national parks, but having some trouble in Europe figuring out good areas for this. Need a wide variety of options for activities.
